With 200 million global monthly users, ChatGPT has caught on in a major way in little time. In the United States alone, 3.9 million people pay for the service. It’s quickly become a regular part of our professional (and even personal) lives.

While we as a collective society are still discovering what ChatGPT can be used for, its SEO benefits have largely been realized. Ahead, uncover what SEO tasks AI can handle best so you can grow your rank with minimal effort.

It used to be that planning your SEO strategy was a painstaking task. You had to do in-depth research, then dedicate a lot of time to executing each strategy. 

Not anymore. ChatGPT can take a lot of SEO busywork off your hands. This is especially pertinent if you’re trying to boost your rank for several websites you own. Take a look at what ChatGPT is capable of.

Keyword Research

You can’t start a successful SEO campaign without understanding the types of keywords your audience is interested in. That requires keyword research. 

There are countless keyword research tools existent to make the process easier. The way these classic tools work is they store or can access sizable databases of related terms, assigning them linearly. 

ChatGPT uses natural language processing to grasp more than the keyword you’ve searched but also any associations and context. The list of keywords you get will be highly targeted, giving you some great directions to take your SEO campaign. 

Keyword Intent

While a list of target keywords is always beneficial, it helps to understand the intent behind those keywords. 

For instance, some search terms are informational. A potential customer searching for “what’s the best [product/service]” is looking for more info. Leads who are readier to buy will search for transactional keywords, like “buy [product/service].”

Keywords can be investigational, such as comparisons between Brand A and Brand B. And some are navigational, like when a potential customer searches for a specific website or brand.

For example, if you’re looking for content topics, just ask ChatGPT. It will produce a neat list for you to sort through. You can use those ideas as is, or perhaps you have a brainstorming session with your team, using the ideas as a basis and growing them from there. 

You can turn ideas into titles, asking ChatGPT to produce several title variations based on one keyword. You can request that the title use a specific brand voice and fit into a certain character count so it’s ready to use. 

You could even consider asking ChatGPT to write copy for you. However, it’s best to use a combination of human- and machine-produced learning to keep content engaging and accurate. 

ChatGPT is also handy for generating FAQs, searching the questions people on the internet ask the most about a given topic. 

Metadata 

Once you’ve gotten your content finished, you need to add metadata. This is an important part of improving your rank, after all!

You also need a meta-friendly title and URL. Ideally, both these pieces of metadata should use the keyword naturally. Don’t forget the header tags and image metadata attached to every photo in your post. 

In short, it’s a lot. ChatGPT can simplify your content’s metadata requirements, producing usable tags and descriptions you can plug right in.

Another major use for ChatGPT is handling technical SEO. This is usually everyone’s least favorite part anyway, but it’s one of the most integral for your rank. 

You can count on AI to set up rules for .htaccess. This is a web server configuration file if you use Apache Web Server. Adding it to a directory allows for URL shortening and redirection and other areas of site access.

ChatGPT can produce Hreflang tags, which indicate what the correct language should be on a webpage. 

You can also use AI for schema markup generation. To put it simply, web crawlers such as Google Bots and other search engine bots rely on schema markups to determine what kind of content you have on your website. That can, in turn, help the bot decide how to rank your pages and site as a whole. 

And here’s an impressive capability of ChatGPT that it doesn’t get enough attention for. It can code! Yes, seriously. 

Now, you probably wouldn’t want to use it for complex coding, but for the basics, it’s fine. You should have someone with coding proficiency double-check the results to make sure they’re not buggy. 

Content Clustering 

Part of what can help your SEO rank is posting consistently high-quality content on your website. That requires having a long-term content plan complete with many keywords to target. 

Keyword clustering comes into play here. With keyword clustering, you assign related keywords into a group according to search intent. Targeting the various keywords can help you rank, not to mention you should have many internal linking opportunities as you produce interrelated content. 

Just as you can ask ChatGPT to generate terms related to your main keyword, you can request that it put together various content clusters.

You and your team can have a meeting to discuss the content clusters the AI has generated, making amendments or building the clusters out. 

Content Optimization 

Optimizing your content ensures it ranks better, improving your brand visibility online. There are plenty of ways ChatGPT can help, giving your site the SEO boost it needs.

A lot of the tactics are ones I’ve already covered, such as optimizing images and videos, adding metadata like optimized URLs, adding headings to your content, and posting often based on content clusters. 

You can ace content optimization and post proudly. 

Finding Guest Post Opportunities

A lot of the tactics I’ve discussed have been centered around on-page SEO, aka the changes you make to your website to help it rank higher. ChatGPT is also a trusted aid in off-site SEO, or strategies applied outside of your site that still help it rank.

For example, you can ask ChatGPT to find websites that might be open to guest post opportunities. All you have to do is explain what your business is and what it does. You can even provide your business name and website link to ChatGPT.

The AI tool will then generate a list of websites you can target. You can even request that ChatGPT write email templates for outreach. Then you can plug in the names and other pertinent information and fire off more of these emails faster.

Backlinks are one of the biggest ways to drive a higher rank, but you need quality backlinks to do it. You will still have to vet the websites produced by ChatGPT, but you’ll have a great list to start with. 

Sitemap Generation

Just as schema markup tells search engine crawlers about your website, so does a sitemap. As the name implies, a sitemap is an index of all the pages on your website. A crawler can quickly review your sitemap to confirm you have an about page, landing pages, etc. 

However, the bigger your site is and the more links you generate, the harder it is to build a sitemap from scratch. Well, fortunately, you no longer have to. ChatGPT can produce an XML sitemap for you.

Tell it which URLs to include, such as your homepage, products/services pages, about page, and your blog. Then, wait a moment and you’ll have a usable, fully coded XML sitemap without having to lift a finger. 

As with any AI-generated coding, double-check the code for accuracy before you use it.
